Volvo is being overwhelmed by its own success, as the Swedish car company registered 57,000 orderers from around the world. This number has already exceeded the official forecast of 50,000 units by the end of 2015, which is still four months away.
At the moment, the factory in Torslanda, Sweden, is running three shifts to meet demand. 76% percent of all customers are going for the Inscription trim level, the most expensive one, so it's fair to say the XC90 is being viewed as a premium model, not just a large SUV.

With the money coming in, Volvo is now free to focus on its new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) technology. It will underpin several upcoming models, starting with the S90 flagship sedan that is rumored to debut at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show (January 2016).

Volvo's sales during the first half of 2015 reached 232,284 cars, up slightly compared to the 229,013 sold in the same period last year. This was driven largely by strong demand for diesel models in Europe. Sales in China were flat during the period.

“It has been a good first half of the year, with an improved financial performance,” said Håkan Samuelsson, President and Chief Executive. “We have been implementing a transformation plan since 2010, and this financial result demonstrates that we continue to be on the right track.”

After sampling the XC90 on two occasions, we can see what 57,000 people were so crazy about. The SUV is a spacious 7-seat equipped with many unique features, such as "Thor’s Hammer" headlights, a tablet that controls all the major functions and an array of safety kit.

The XC90 is also unique in its segment because all its available engines are 2-liter ones, ranging from a basic 190 hp D4 diesel to a 400 horsepower hybrid T8.
