Delphi’s New Hybrid-Beating Gas Engine

Delphi's New Engine 1 photo
Both of the engines we so excessively use nowadays are exactly the same as they were over 100 years ago when they were first designed. Both the diesel and the petrol engine work in exactly the same fashion as they did 100+ years ago, with recent additions slightly bringing the designs into the future, stuff like precise high-pressure fuel injection instead of carbs, turbochargers for added efficiency and power and catalytic converters for reduced emissions. Other than these major innovations, the engines run exactly as Otto and Diesel intended them to.
Delphi, however, want to change our perspective on how internal combustion engines work, by combining the two concepts into one, amazingly efficient, engine. Their plan is to make a petrol engine that runs like a diesel, by compressing the fuel considerably more so that the explosion within is qucker, cleaner, more powerful and more efficient, reaching hybrid-like efficiency but without the bulky electric motor and batteries.

They have successfully made and tested a single-cylinder unit which apparently has stood up to all manner of lab testing. The big news about this new type of engine (this is what we should be calling a hybrid, a proper hybrid of two engine types merged into one) is the increase in efficiency by as much as 50% - a huge improvement over what we are currently driving, be it diesel, petrol or hybrid. If this engine were to become part of a hybrid system, the set-up would be extremely efficient even by the strictest of standards.

To be frank, we have no doubts that a very large and serious company like Delphi has actually made the engine they claim to have made, it’s just that we’re worried that it will be lost in obscurity due to the way our world is run. Nowadays, more efficient ways of producing power and just moving around are now suppressed to make us even more dependent on oil than we are today, despite the fact that we know it is a finite resource, which is really a lot less valuable (monetarily speaking) than we think it is.

The perverted modern markets and the sheer ignorance of the masses allows greedy corporations to do whatever they want. Let’s just hope that Delphi is a strong enough company to impose the new technology to manufacturers without the risk of it being swept under the rug. If you don't hear anything elese about this new engine after reading this article, know that our concerns were genuine.
