Dead Scorpions Turned Into Steampunk Sculptures are Scary

For those about to close their eyes you’d better hold on for another second, that is if you want to prove that you’re not suffering from arachnophobia. While people around the planet build hundred-of-thousand-dollars limited watches and other dress their bikes in gold, an American artist, who was born in Ukraine, found a way to revive the world’s most scary insects using broken timepieces.

Who says fear of scorpions or bugs can’t be fought with art? Well, it seems this 40-year old Ukrainian thinks creating really scary steampunk sculptures, by meticulously joining various watch parts into the dead bodies of real insects and scorpions, will solve the problem. We wrote about Dmitry Khristenko when we were talking about his miniature motorcycles and cars he is selling online for more than $475 (EUR 347) per piece.

The guy moved in America 15 years ago and has been looking for timepieces all around the country since then. He is scouring the markets, the garage sales and even the trash cans to find them. After that Khristenko spends tens of hours to meticulously take each piece apart and than reconvert them into their new model.

One of the artist’s exclusivist and a bit awkward sculptures, which we found rather frightening, is a set of dead scorpions and bugs he manages to somehow turn into eccentric creatures. We have one question that's... bugging us: would Dmitry have the heart to use luxury time pieces like the Big Bang Ferrari Russia for his scorpions?
