The Livorno courthouse, on the west coast of Italy, has officially pronounced the famed carmaker De Tomaso, as dead, for the second time in ten years, having previously ‘gone under’ back in 2004. Despite desperate efforts to keep the company afloat, having even secured a manufacturing location (a former Delphi factory), nothing more could be done.
A key factor in this drastic decision may have also been the less-than-flattering reception for their first concept in years, the Deauville, which was presented at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. It was a five-door hatchback-crossover, which would have been powered by a V6 300 hp engine, as well as a more powerful petrol varian and a 250 hp diesel version - which are irrelevant now.
Sadly, none of these ideas will ever materialize, despite the fact that when we first saw it last year, we must admit to having liked it. De Tomaso is another important manufacturer with a rich history that has gone down, due to the way the monetary systems of our world work and interact.
