De Tomaso Bringing the Pantera Back

We already know that De Tomaso is alive and kicking once again, as the carmaker has brought its new Deauville to the Geneva Motor Show this year. According to PistonHeads, the four-door, rather unconventional vehicle, with a design signed by Pininfarina, will be joined by the Pantera later this year.

This is very good news as the two-seater was the car De Tomaso was best known in the past. Not much is know about the new model, but PistonHeads says it will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

The Deauville, which made its debut in Geneva, is a resurrection of a model from 1970s, when it was a bit leaner than this odd-looking sedan. The five-seater sedan features 2.8-liter turbocharged V6 under the hood producing 300-horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm.

A six-speed automatic transmission delivers the power to all four wheels. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h), while the 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint is handled in 6.7 seconds. The automaker says there's also a 260 hp six-cylinder turbodiesel on the way for that car.

These figures aren’t that impressive, considering the model cost about €89,000 on the European market, but an upcoming V8 version with about 550 hp might save the day in the near future. Hopefully that’s the engine that will go into the Pantera.

The final piece of the De Tomaso puzzle will come some time in 2012 in the form of an all-new limousine.
