De Puniet Undergoes Ankle Surgery on Monday

Randy de Puniet has finally taken some time off to get 100 percent physically fit for the upcoming campaign of the MotoGP championship. Although the Frenchman didn't miss a single race throughout the 2009 season, he competed the second half of the year partially injured.

That's because he injured himself during a Motocross outing prior to the Czech Republic Grand Prix, while doing a training session at Aix en Provence. He fell off his bike and injured his leg in the process, being inserted a screw in his ankle by the doctors shortly after.

The Frenchman therefore completed the remaining races of 2009 with a screw in his ankle, and yesterday decided to finally remove it. He will therefore undergo a fitness programme in the upcoming few weeks, which will hopefully get him up and ready to test the new LCR-prepared Honda at Sepang, in February.

It has been a very quick and easy operation. After the crash in August I worked hard to get the best from the bike but sometimes it has been very painful for me,” said De Puniet, according to the LCR Honda official site.

After the races my ankle was always very swollen but now I am very satisfied because the size is normal. I am going to remove the stitches in 18 days and after that will begin my rehabilitation training to be in good form at Sepang in February,” added the French rider, who'll be entering his 5th MotoGP campaign next year after signing a one-year extension with LCR Honda.

In 2009, Randy's best result was a 3rd place finish during a rainy and chaotic British Grand Prix – the last hosted by Donington Park – while finishing 11th in the overall classification.
