De La Rosa to Lose Campos Seat over Lack of Sponsors

Pedro de la Rosa might have to unpack soon and reassess his plans for the future, as his racing seat with Campos Grand Prix next season is currently pending on sponsorship issues. The news was confirmed by the very chief of the team, Adrian Campos, who revealed that lack of corporate backing could endanger De la Rosa's signing with his outfit.

The Spaniard was initially regarded as a top option for the team, as it was even rumored he had already inked a 2-year deal with the Spanish team. Those reports could not have been farther from the truth though, as it now appears Bruno Senna will have to wait a little longer to find out his future teammate.

I would like to have Pedro de la Rosa, but he is Spanish and there are problems with the sponsorships of Spaniards. There are other options from Russia and Venezuela, but everything depends on the sponsors,” admitted Campos earlier this week.

His comments were echoed by the team's president as well, Jose Ramon Carabante, who confirmed that 2 other drivers are racing for the second spot with the Spanish team: Venezuelan driver Pastor Maldonado and Russia's Vitaly Petrov.

They both spent the last couple of years inside the GP2 Series, but Petrov made the better impression through the last season. The Russian driver eventually had to settle for the runner-up spot, behind ART Grand Prix' Nico Hulkenberg, while Maldonado had to settle for 6th place.

Needless to say, they are both GP winners in the series, yet it's unlikely that will make a big difference in Campos' decision-making process.
