The move was in the public eye for quite some time now, as it was a well-known fact that Adrian Campos will go for at least one experienced driver for his first year as Formula One manager. Although the team did not issue any official comment on the news, Spanish newspaper Diario AS reports that De la Rosa will be presented as Campos Grand Prix race driver during the European Grand Prix, at Valencia, one month from now.
The Formula One veteran debuted inside the Great Circle as a race driver back in 1999, while driving for Arrows (after previously test-driving for Eddie Jordan). The Spaniard drove for 3 F1 teams in the last 10 years, including a couple of seasons with Jaguar, before landing a reserve/test driver deal with McLaren Mercedes.
The last of his 72 starts in Formula One happened during the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix, as he replaced departed Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya at McLaren for almost half of season that year. The second race seat with Campos Grand Prix is still up for grabs, and the Spanish media knows that all too well. It's already been alleged that Brazilian Bruno Senna and Mexican Sergio Perez will be the two candidates battling for the job, with both drivers benefiting from considerable financial backing for their Formula One debut (from Petrobras and Telmex respectively).
