This year's Daytona 500 NASCAR practice debuted with a five-car wreck after Kurt Busch and Matt Kenseth collided just eight minutes into the first Sprint Unlimited sesssion.
Trying to move down the track, Kenseth hit Busch and caused a multicar crash that also involved the vehicles driven Mark Martin, Carl Edwards and Juan Pablo Montoya. Considering Friday's session was the drivers' first run in 6-gen race ready cars, the crash doesn't come as a surprise, but we feel that Matt Kenseth's approach on the track was a bit reckless.
"I had no idea anybody was there. He had a run at the same time and I came down in front of him and he couldn't get slowed up from staying of me. So it was just 100 percent my fault," acknowledged Kenseth, while Busch seemed rather annoyed: "A lot of hard work goes into these cars and six weeks of preparation can be trashed in six laps".
According to team representatives, the damaged cars should be repaired in time for next week's Daytona 500.
In other news, Kevin Harvick was the fastest driver in the first of to two practice sessions with a speed of 197.364 mph.
