David Hasselhoff Auctioning Off Personal KITT Car, Have $500k Lying Around?

Few personalities have endured in popular culture like David Michael Hasselhoff, the American actor, singer, producer, and businessperson. If anyone needs an official recognition to support the claim, we can tell them “The Hoff” is the most-watched man on TV, according to Guinness World Records.

Without a doubt, after more than four decades in the spotlight, Hasselhoff has amassed a huge collection of personal items, many of which remind him about his greatest successes, such as Baywatch or Knight Rider.

The latter show, which originally ran between 1982 and 1986, is most important for car enthusiasts. The Hoff starred as Michael Knight, a high-tech crime fighter that was partnered on screen with a self-aware, AI-equipped, and almost indestructible talking car.

Most fans who were contemporary with the TV series know all about KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand) - a stealthy, thoroughly modified, 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Well, fans of Hasselhoff and the series are in for some potentially great news, because the larger-than-life TV star has decided to auction (a lot of) its personal collection, with part of the proceeds going to his charitable organizations.

You can find just about anything in there, even the creepy “Big Dave” from The SpongeBob SquarePants movie, but of course we’re deeply interested in one particular item: The Hoff’s personal KITT car from Knight Rider.

We have some great news and some potentially disastrous information. On the positive side, the conversion car is fully functional, and if the reserve price is exceeded by 25%, none other than David Hasselhoff will make sure KITT is delivered to its new owner.

Now for the other side of the coin (pun intended), although the highest estimate puts the vehicle at $300k, the bidding has already reached $475k at the time of writing. As for the live part of the auction, it is still a long way from now as it’s scheduled to kick off on January 23rd.

If you don’t have the cash for the real deal, you could always settle for something like the $4k autographed “The Knight Rider Photo,” or the 2010 Knight Rider Festival “thank you plaque” that’s currently standing at a mere $200.
