The return of the Datsun brand is upon us, as Nissan has just released the first sketches of their very first low budget car. Codenamed the K2, this car is likely to be classed a supermini, since it's based around the Micra (or March as it's known in some markets).
The first generation Micra launched in 1982 was actually designed as a budget car and sold under the Datsun brand as well, so it's fitting they started with it.
The K2 will be assembled in India and is expected to go on sale in early 2014. A flu reveal of the car will take place two weeks from now on July 15th, also marking the Datsun brand’s World Premiere.
The Datsun brand will not be tied to the Indian market, as this affordable car brand will also be targeted at Indonesian, Russian and South African consumers.
"Datsun will bring competitive products and services, modern and aspirational, while at the same time reassuring, providing superior value and specifically developed for the emerging and ambitious new Middle Class in high-growth markets. The Datsun cars will be locally developed with the support of Nissan Motor Company engineers and stylists and will be locally produced," said Vincent Cobee, Head of Datsun.
