Rumors about Nissan reviving the Datsun brand have been around for quite a while and now we have a new one, which indicates that the latter company is getting very close to seeing the light of day one again.
Nissan has trademarked the Datsun name and has even prepared a new logo, so the revival many are waiting for shouldn't be that far.
However, enthusiasts who are waiting for the 240Z sports car of the seventies to make a comeback might disappointed, as Nissan plans to use the brand as a large volume one that targets developing markets, which means that we'll probably get low-cost vehicles instead.
“We are looking at various brands and the option to acquire various brands for use in the future, should we want to. We need to make sure that we own the Datsun name. If we were to use it, Datsun would most likely be a brand for large, developing markets such as Russia and China,” a Nissan Spokesman was quoted as saying by autoexpress.
The low budget area of the market will bring an interesting challenge, as the brand has to bring something extra over the usual assets of a player in this segment if it wants to win customers over.
