Dash Mod Brings an iPad to Subaru Impreza WRX, Dodge RAM, Ford Mustang

Choosing between Android Auto and CarPlay basically comes down to what phone you’re using because right now, there’s no cross-platform support – and there’s a good chance such a thing will never be offered.

But even if you choose one of these two, you’re still not getting the same experience as on your mobile phone or a tablet running Android or iOS, and it’s all for good reason: both Google and Apple have designed Android Auto and CarPlay, respectively, to offer a car-optimized experience, so there are several limitations aimed at drivers and the app they can run behind the wheel.

On the other hand, it’s no secret that more and more head units run the full Android version, while in the case of iOS, the only way to go is a custom dash mod that would allow you to install an iPad inside the car.

The people over at Soundman Car Audio has created six new dash mods that allow you to do just that: replace the in-car display with an iPad and thus get the best iOS experience without any compromises.

The new cars that are supported with these dash modes are the Subaru Impreza WRX, 2005 Dodge Ram, 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR, Ford Mustang, and Ford F-150 (two of them).

Depending on the car model that you own (the list is available at the end of the article), you can choose between an iPad mini or an iPad Pro, obviously based on how much space you have on the dashboard.

Installing these dash mods isn’t necessarily a difficult thing to do, but the biggest benefit is that they look as original equipment with an embedded iPad. This is something that not even the manufacturers themselves offer, so watch the video below to see the dash mods coming to be.

The new dash modes are aimed at the following models:
  • Subaru Impreza WRX iPad 9.7" dash panel and center console mod
  • 2005 Dodge Ram iPad PRO 11" dash mod
  • 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR iPad PRO 11"
  • Ford Mustang iPad mini dash mod
  • Two Ford F-150 iPad PRO 12.9" panels
