Dartz, the eccentric SUV manufacturer from Latvia, has announced it will launch two new models, which will be standard and long-wheebase version of a new SUV.
The latest creations from the brand known for opulence and tacky design are called Prombon Black Shark and Prombon Black Alligator. The idea is that the first version is intended for those that like to be driven in their cars, so it has a longer wheelbase, while the second is devised for clients that prefer to drive their luxury automobiles.
The Latvian SUVs will not have any Alcantara inside, but they will be upholstered with natural alligator skin, as well as stingray skin. Customers will get their keys in a custom case that is inspired by the black box container used on spacecraft.
The same box will be available to order as a desk ornament, or even a case that will be filled with caviar instead of car keys.
The Alligator series is limited to just 50 cars, and half of the production is already booked for the Chinese market, Jalopnik notes. Furthermore, the first five units will be divided between two armored vehicles, destined for India and Italy, and three non-armored, which will go to the United Arab Emirates, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands. The latter is the first unit of the all-new model built by Dartz.
A representative of the brand has confirmed that both versions of the new Dartz model will be based on the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 chassis, along with inspiration from Soviet military and space technology. The brand from Latvia is focused on opulent coach-building, but likes to keep its traditions alive.
Dartz has an interesting history behind it, as it is based on the “Russobaltique” RBVZ factory, which used to design railway coaches for Russian Tzars, but also helicopters and other creations.
They also made cars, but only two original units have survived to present day, and both are exhibited at the Riga Motor Museum, located in Latvia.
Igor Sikorsky, the engineer that is considered to be the "father of the helicopter," started his career as an RBVZ engineer. By the way, Dartz will also sell apparel, so that alligator jacket you always dreamed of will be available to purchase.
