Dani Pedrosa Rumored to Ride for Suzuki

Evan if the HRC fans may see this as being almost blasphemous, the Spanish guys at motocuatro report that having none other than Dani Pedrosa riding for Suzuki in 2015 is not as far-fetched as it may sound.

The Spanish source mentions that Pedrosa has in fact received an offer from Suzuki at the end of the 2013 season, and he kind of agreed with the proposal, but still mentioned that his future with Honda has priority. That is, in case HRC makes him an offer for two more seasons, he will take it. If Honda is willing to let him go, then he could ride Suzuki’s XRH-1 machine as of 2015.

Suzuki’s MotoGP program boss Davide Brivio was quite explicit lately, when he said that the team makes no secret of its efforts to secure the best riders available for the comeback scheduled for 2015. Still, Brivio adds, things are almost funny: in order to have a top rider signed with Suzuki, the team must present him a top bike. But… the team cannot prove that the bike is as competitive as the other top bikes without a first-class rider aboard.

Nevertheless, Brivio and Suzuki know their comeback will be difficult and are ready to fight. Apparently Suzuki is not only looking forward to make a comeback in MotoGP, but it’s also eyeing some good results, too. And going for Pedrosa kind of makes a lot of sense.

He never wore de Premier Class crown, and each year he’s trying to be better and better and a new factory seat might provide him with new resources, in case the Suzuki XRH-1 will be on par with the rest of the factory rides. Even more, Pedrosa will be 29 at the end of the 2014 season, which doesn’t leave him with too many options for the future.

So choosing a multi-year deal Suuzki might offer him, say a contract for 3 seasons, might provide Pedrosa with the needed peace of mind to become even more competitive. Repsol Honda is rumored to have confirmed Marquez for two more seasons, even if Livio Suppo denies this. In case they did, then their most important move was secured and they can wait to see how Pedrosa will perform this year, prior to making a call.

Still, we know that half-season is about time to sign deals for the next seasons, so it looks like until then, it’s all down to heeding such rumors or not.
