Dana Begins Indian Center Build

Automotive supplier Dana broke ground this weekend at its fifteenth technical center in the world, located in Pune, India. The facility requires an investment of $20 million and will be used to bring under one roof, the supplier's abilities to design, test, and support each of its automotive, commercial vehicle and off-highway markets.

The build is expected to be concluded by the end of 2011, with the facility to be part of Dana India Technical Centre Pvt. The facility will occupy 125,000 square feet (11,600 square meters) on a 4.75-acre (1.9-hectare) lot.

"A ground breaking is typically about putting down roots," said George Constand, Dana chief technology and quality officer.

"But given our widespread presence in India, today's ceremony is really about extending our local roots. This new technical center will enable Dana to serve the expanding needs of one of the world's strongest growth markets."

The buildings to be erected at the location will house engineering design, a test laboratory equipped to support the Light Vehicle Driveline, Commercial Vehicle, Off-Highway, and Power Technologies product group requirements.

Performance, structural, environmental, oil flow and lubrication, metallurgical testing, as well as noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) testing capabilities will also be tackled in the new Indian facility.

"With as many as 550 engineers on site when fully operational, the new technical center will more than double Dana's engineering presence in India,” Dana India managing director BD Singh added.

“Along with serving the local market, it will also provide an essential complement to our existing engineering resources at technical centers strategically located across four continents."
