Dallara, the Italian chassis manufacturer known for its extensive experience in motorsport, is said to be preparing a street car.
We are talking about a road-legal vehicle that will provide maximum performance for its driver and possible passenger. The first street model from Dallara is set to become the last car designed by Gian Paolo Dallara, the founder of the company, and it is expected to rival the KTM X-Bow and even the Alfa Romeo 4C. It goes without saying that the Ariel Atom is also targeted here.
In spite of its described rivals, the Dallara street model will not have any doors, and it will not be a “regular” car from multiple points of view. Most likely, its occupants might have to wear helmets while driving it, as they will need to be shielded from the elements.
According to Autocar, Dallara will only build a maximum of 120 units a year, and the car will come with a 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-four-cylinder engine. While Italian officials have not confirmed this yet, it is evident that Dallara has signed with Ford for its 2.3-liter EcoBoost unit. The same engine is used by Zenos, as well as other small volume manufacturers of lightweight sports cars.
In the case of the Dallara road car, the target weight is approximately 800 kilograms (1,763 lbs), a full 47 kg (103 lbs) lighter than a KTM X-Bow, while power will be close to 400 BHP, the equivalent of 298 kW or 405 HP. The only transmission available will be a six-speed manual gearbox.
Concerning pricing, Dallara’s founder stated that their product would be more expensive than KTM’s, but it will bring more performance. Concerning its main rival, the X-Bow, Dallara officials indicated that they have learned “a lot of lessons from KTM,” as well as numerous teachings from their racing activity.
For those of you who do not know, Dallara builds most of the chassis in Formula 3, but also the frame used in IndyCar, GP2, World Series by Renault, Indy Lights, GP3, ADAC Formel Masters, and Super Formula.
