Dainese Shows D-Air Street Rider Airbag Crash Test

Recently teamed up with BMW Motorrad for further development of both race track and street rider airbag systems, notorious Italian protective gear manufacturer Dainese has just surfaced some official footage from the crash tests they performed with the prestigious German car club ADAC.
These ADAC-sanctioned tests aimed to prove whether Dainese's claims of their D-Air Street airbag truly activates in 45 ms, and it looks like the Italians were just plain honest.

We've seen similar racing systems go off with MotoGP riders Marc Marquez (crashing at 340 km/h) and Jorge Lorenzo (238 km/h), both crashing at extreme speeds and being protected by the rival Alpinestars' in-suit airbags.

While the rider airbags are not exactly the newest thing around in the motorcycle protective gear, we have to give all the guys in the business a big hand for constantly looking for methods of increasing our safety, and developing better, more secure equipment to protect us in those grueling moments when things go all wrong. For more D-air info click here, and for  a more detailed story on motorcycle airbags, check out this Autoevolution article.
