Daimler AG had its annual shareholders meeting this week, and they approved the biggest dividend in their history, but this did not make the headlines because of a silly scandal.
As reports note, the German company organized a buffet for its shareholders at the Berlin meeting, and the Police had to intervene to calm two angry participants who started a verbal altercation because of sausages.
According to Bloomberg, a woman who was attending the meeting noticed that one man packed multiple sausages from the free buffet for Daimler shareholders, and she interposed to stop him.
Apparently, the man’s greedy and rude gesture started a verbal altercation that grew to such proportions that it eventually required the intervention of the Bundespolizei (German Police).
We have no idea how quick the Germans are at calling the police when there is an argument, but we presume spirits got hot enough for security to make this decision.
Bloomberg contacted Daimler’s spokesperson, who stated that the company had served around 12,500 wursts to the 5,500 shareholders at the Berlin meeting. A quick calculation shows that this would mean an average of 2.2 wursts per person, and the number could rise further if attendants were on a diet or did not eat pork for whatever reason.
Daimler shareholders authorized a payout of 3.25 euros per share on Wednesday, so even an attendant who had a single hypothetical stock could afford a portion on their own from a fast-food restaurant. However, this is clearly not a question of poverty or even hunger, but a matter of greed.
As the report mentions, the man responsible for starting this scandal wanted to take some sausages home, even though they were unquestionably destined for being served at the event. The impoliteness of his behavior makes us understand the woman’s decision to intervene, but we cannot fully condone her actions.
