As more and more carmakers focus on innovative technologies, the interior of cars as we know it will suffer massive changes just to host new gadgets and functions. And Daimler and Qualcomm have recently teamed up to provide connected car tech.
Besides the autonomous feature everyone wants the introduce in their cars, the following years will see a shift in what a car will be able to do and how the driver-vehicle experience will unfold.
For example, future Mercedes-Benz models will pack 3G/4G connectivity, wireless in-vehicle charging tech and Halo wireless electric vehicle charging (WEVC). The latter is Qualcomm's creation, but they just struck a deal with Daimler that will allow Mercedes-Benz buyers to access such gizmos.
Also, the Halo WEVC system will permit charging of EVs and PHEV without physically plugging in the car to an electricity source, similar to what some smartphone manufacturers are offering at the moment.
Daimler officials are determined not just to keep up with the latest developments in the industry, but also implement such functions in the cars they produce:
"It’s important that we remain on the cutting edge of technology and continue to deliver unparalleled experiences to our customers. With this in mind, we are eager to jointly explore possible fields of future cooperation with an internationally leading tech-firm like Qualcomm,” explained Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG.
The news comes to join Android Auto's first appearance on the 2015 Hyundai Sonata, but where are we heading? Our guess is if things keep the path they started to evolve on, soon enough we might end up having a one-for-all gadget to make our lives easier. And it will go by the name of 'automobile'.
