No, we are not talking about a magically expensive Spanish shrub or anything, but about a Mercedes-Benz facility in Vitoria, Spain, where the German will spend around 190 million Euros to prepare it for the production of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz V-Class.
“With the investment of approximately EUR 190 million we are strengthening our Vitoria facility and making it fit for the future. At the same time we are emphasizing the importance of the second-largest van plant in our global production network.” said Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans and ex-AMG man.
The Vitoria plant will use the funds to cover the modernization and reorganization of the facility's body shop, paint shop and assembly units, along with the site's logistics.
Located in the Basque region of northwestern Spain, the factory manufactures about 75,000 vans annually and was inaugurated in the early 1950s.
The new V-Class is set to be officially revealed on January 30, with production to commence soon after and its market introduction to take place in about three months time.
