Scheduled to be completed next year, the new production facility will double Daimler's production in China to more than 200,000 cars per year. Most of the money will go into a car factory, an engine plant and adjacent automotive production facilities.
Whether the above information is related or not, Daimler expects China to become its largest market as early as 2015.
The Germans expect to sell no less than 300,000 units a year by the time the planned production facility is completed, only a third of this amount being imported from other countries where Mercedes-Benz has automotive plants.
Both Audi and BMW have already reached this goal in the last couple of years, so the Stuttgart manufacturer is a bit behind from this point of view, especially since China is a crucial ever-expanding market which will prove to be a good base for their larger plans, which are to reinstate themselves as the largest premium car manufacturer in the world by 2020.
