We already told you back in August that the upcoming W205 generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class was rumored to be also manufactured in Brazil, along with Germany and the United States.
Bloomberg reports that later on today Daimler AG will announce plans to resume their Brazilian car production in 2016 in order to bypass rising taxes on imported cars and to also keep up with BMW and Audi, who also have plans to assemble some of their own models in the country.
The Stuttgart brand stopped assembling cars in Brazil in 2011, converting their plant in the state of Minas Gerais into a commercial vehicle assembly facility.
The W205 C-Class will be accompanied by the newly-launched GLA compact crossover/SUV in the Brazilian factory, who might also be manufactured in Mexico as well, apart from the Rastatt plant in Germany.
Daimler's move is part of an increased model and production offensive that has the aim to bring Mercedes-Benz back at the no. 1 spot in premium car making by 2020, and one of the most important steps is to consolidate their position in emerging markets all over the world.
