Daimler AG Employees Targeted by Prosecutors in Angela Merkel Aide Case

As some of you might know, in October Germany blocked an EU members agreement to lower passenger vehicle emissions by 2020, their motive being that in the long run it would cost jobs at their trio of premium manufacturers Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi.

Naturally, Angela Merkel's veto was contested by many, and a number of allegations of conflicts of interest and even bribery from BMW went down last month.

The fire is still not out, and according to Automotive News a number of Daimler AG board members are under investigation from Berlin prosecutors for receiving undue advantage from a person who until recently worked with Angela Merkel and is now a lobbyist for the Stuttgart car maker.

According to German WirtschaftsWoche magazine, the investigation was also targeted at the magic mustache man, Dieter Zetsche, who was apparently not available for comment.

Eckart von Klaeden, who was an aide to the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, left his former senior role with Merkel's Christian Democrats after the national German elections in September and is now the chief political lobbyist at Daimler AG.

Naturally, this is more of a sensationalistic media speculation which will most likely prove to be just smoke without fire, but we'll keep you updated if it escalates in any direction.
