Did you miss the Daihatsu Copen? What, you don’t know what it is? It’s one of the funniest cars ever to be marketed or sold in Europe.
technically, it’s a kei car, so this 2-door roadster with a folding metal roof has to be smaller than a Fiat 500 and less powerful as well. In Japan, the car was sold until production ended this year with a turbocharged 660cc turbo, but the European market model has a more fortunate 1.3-liter.
That means an output of... 87 PS and 120 Nm (89 lb-ft) of torque. With a 0 to 62 mph time of 9.5 seconds and a top speed of 170 km/h (110 mph), it’s about as fast as a city car.
Despite its slow performance, the Copen takes itself quite seriously. It’s got two exhaust tips, position exactly like a Golf R’s, a folding roof like the Merc SLK and bucket leather seats.
They are quite rare, these little monsters, and one has fallen into the hands of German wrappers Schwabenfolia, who have covered in Alpina White. Yes, that’s a BMW color you usually see on the 5-Series. But no matter, it’s not like anybody will mistake this for anything other than a toy!
