The BMW M235i is a capable machine, we learned, using that back-to-basics approach we all wanted so badly from the Bavarians lately. Basically it’s a BMW E46 M3 reincarnated even though it’s not a full-on M car.
But who needs that anyway, right? The price would go considerably high and the performance would probably be too much for most people. As it is, the M235i makes perfect sense to us. Not to Swiss tuner, Daehler, though.
They created a tuning kit for the M Performance Automobile that drastically alters the engine performance and track capabilities of the Coupe at the same time.
In stock guise, the M235i comes fitted with a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder upgraded N55 engine that makes 326 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. With it, the xDrive model (which is faster than the RWD one by 0.2 seconds) will do 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in just 4.6 seconds.
That’s nothing compared to the tuned model, though. Thanks to a new ECU map, the Daehler creation will accelerate to the same benchmark speed in exactly 4.2 seconds. Do you know what car is in the same region? The M4 that is just 0.1 seconds faster with the 7-speed DCT gearbox and 0.1 seconds slower with the manual.
How is that possible, you ask? Well, the engine was taken up to 390 HP, the suspension was changed to offer more adjusting capabilities (about 18 ways to adjust rebound rate and height) and the top speed raised at 288 km/h (179 mph).
The price for the engine tuning is CHF4,400 which translates to around €3,655 or $4,500. For that kind of money, you can also look at other choices from Hartge, AC Schnitzer or even Manhart.
