Dacia to Launch Two New Models in 2012

The push to greater heights of Romanian manufacturer Dacia, fueled by the great success of its so far limited lineup of vehicles, is expected to continue in the years ahead with at least as much force. And this time, the car maker plans big in countries other than Romania as well.

One of the manufacturer's most important production sites outside the country of origin, the plant in Tangiers, Morocco, is gearing up to produce much more vehicles than it currently does. According to AutoNews, the facility is slotted to produce at least 350,000 vehicles each year, starting 2012. The decision has been made because the Dacia plant in Romania is already working at full throttle.

Gerard Detourbet, the man responsible for Renault's entry-level cars and strategy says the huge number of model to roll off the assembly lines will be powered by the introduction of two brand new models next year. One of them, we hear, promises to be something like never before in the Dacia lineup.

According to Renault sources, one model will be a small family car, whose details remain for now unknown, while the second will be a commercial vehicle, comparable in size with the Renault Kangoo. Both will be based on the Logan platform, used on all the carmaker's models.

Renault plans to fuel the expansion of the Dacia model with a huge EUR5.7 billion investment. The money, which will be spent over the next three years, are intended for the group's global operations and are not limited to the ones in Europe.
