The next-generation smart fortwo city car will be powered by the Romanian-built turbocharged 0.9-liter TCe H4 engines thanks to a partnership recently signed between Renault Technology Romania and Daimler.
Already fitted on Dacia’s new Logan, Sandero and Sandero Stepway models, the 0.9-liter TCe powerplant develops 90 HP and was put into production in Mioveni, Romania, starting 2012.

The small displacement engine can also be found in the Renault Clio 4 and will end up moving the next-generation Renault Twingo as well.

“Renault Technology Romania has a partnership with Daimler that allows us to export the H4 engine for the smart city car and the Renault Twingo,” said Sorin Buse, Renault Technology Romania managing director and Dacia representative.

The turbocharged 0.9-liter TCe engine was developed as a replacement for the naturally aspired 1.6-liter 85 HP and 105 HP units know as the K7M and K4M respectively.
