Dacia Micro Hybrids Coming in Late 2012 or Early 2013

The automotive industry is packed full with new and exciting fuel saving technologies like hybrids and start-stop. But you know that the tech has become a mainstream occurrence when an automaker like Dacia, who specializes on making cars on a budget, starts to think of such things.
According to Romanian publication Hotnews, the first Dacia hybrids are coming in late 2012 or early 2013, and while that might sound a bit vague, we have to admit that a cheaper hybrid is what the European market needs right now.

According to parts supplier Rombat, their new Terra HD battery needs to ready by 2012-2013 for integration into “micro hybrid 1” vehicles. These aren’t you gas-electric Priuses, but regular cars that make use of stop technology and save fuel at the lights, stopping the engine when the car is stationary. The engine is then automatically restarted when the accelerator pedal is pressed.

There’s also a “micro hybrid 2’ Dacia model in the works that will also get regenerative braking, but this will only hit the market after the first model is developed.

To develop new batteries, Rombat has reportedly invested a total of €16 million into their facilities in Bistrita, Romania. A new factory will cope with Dacia’s demand and will start producing lead-acid units in next year.

Hopefully, these technologies will make their way into the new Logan that is also scheduled to arrive around that time.
