Dacia Low-Cost Offensive to Continue With Four New Models, We Don’t Believe the Hype

After Renault acquired Romanian-based Dacia, the Frenchies turned around the brand into the low-cost vehicle manufacturer it is today. Years before the first Logan came on the scene, both the media and Renault were boasting that it’ll be priced at just €5,000. But that price tag was too enthusiastic...

When the Dacia Logan I arrived in dealerships 10 years ago, the starting price was €5,900. But there was an even bigger problem than the sticker price. Base models didn’t came with air conditioning and other utmost necessary comfort features. With the Logan II of 2012, the starting pice hiked to €6,690.

Compared to its forerunner, the second-gen Logan was better equipped from the get-go, which made the slight price increase bearable in terms of value for money. Throughout the Renault ownership of Dacia, numerous rumours appeared now and then, implying an all-new A-segment city dweller is in the pipeline, said to be cheaper the Logan I. Riiiight...

The most recent report on this bugger comes from the Frenchies from LesEchos. Without citing any Dacia or Renault sources whatsoever, these guys say that a whopping four new models may enter production in the near future, including a small city car which will go on sale in India in summer 2015.

LesEchos says that all four cars will be “ultra low cost” because they’ll start from “around €3,500.” With all due respect, that's too little money for a new vehicle made to the European Union’s EU6 standards.

As if that wasn't enough boogey, the publication declared that all four models (an SUV, a seven-seater, a sedan and a hatchback, which mirrors the current lineup of Dacia) will ride on an unheard of Nissan platform dubbed the CAMM. Sorry LesEchos, but whay you reported doesn’t really hold water.
