The incredible, yet anticipated success of the Romanian-built Duster model will soon be experienced on the Russian market as well, where the French manufacturer that owns Dacia, Renault, plans to built and sell the model wearing the diamond-shaped badge of the French carmaker.
The Duster, Renault Duster, will begin being manufactured in Russia starting late 2011. Actually, not manufactured, but assembled, as the vehicle's components will be shipped as Completely Knocked Down kits (CKD) from Romania.
Together with the Duster, the Renault plant in Russia will also assemble Megane and Fluence models shipped from France as Semi Knocked Down kits (SKD)
Currently, Logan and Sandero models are being sold in Russia as Renaults as well, two models which enjoy an above average success on the local market. The Duster however is expected to be a real hit, as it molds better with the desires and expectations of the Russian consumers.
The Duster is currently being offered with three engines available for both 4x2 and 4x4 versions: one petrol engine (1.6 16V 110hp) and two diesel engines (dCi 85 and dCi 110). It uses a Nissan-sourced intuitive control for the 4x4 version, allowing the driver to control the mode in which the Duster will tackle the terrain ahead of it.
The SUV is equipped with ABS, EBV electronic brakeforce distribution and emergency brake assist, two front airbags and three-point seat belts with load limiters for the front seats. Upper trim levels (still kept under wraps) will benefit from two lateral head/thorax airbags as well.
