The most affordable crossover in the UK is not as cheap as it used to be, especially if you want a good engine with it. But it's hard not to like new Blue dCi 1.5-liter diesel that's just been added to the 2019 model.
What do we mean by "not as affordable as it used to be"? Well, the base version of the Duster starts from just under £9,995, but this dCi is available only from £15,695, so it's 57% more. For that kind of money, there are a lot of other crossovers you can buy, so you have to ask yourself if you need a super-efficient diesel with 4x4, because most buyers actually don't.

The new unit is the same as on other Renault models. It complies with the latest emissions regulations and produces 115 HP and 260 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the base model only gets the SCe 115, so same amount of power, but a 1.6-liter petrol engine with no turbo and only FWD.

Comparing fuel economy, we see that the diesel averages 60.1 mpg (WLTP) and emits 123 grams while the SCe does 43.5 mpg and emits 149 grams of CO2. It's a big difference, of course, but you have to do many miles to recuperate the cash and still run the risk of your diesel crossover being banned from big cities in the future.

As far as the trim is concerned, the dCi 115 4x4 skips the base Access and starts with Essential 16-inch 'Fidji' steel wheels, body colored front and rear bumpers, manual air conditioning, heat adjustable driver’s seat, DAB radio with steering-column-mounted controls and Bluetooth connectivity. Step up to the Comfort and you will have 16-inch ‘Cyclade’ alloy wheels, front armrest, leather steering wheel, graphite cloth upholstery, rear parking camera and sensors, electric front and rear windows, heated and electrically adjustable door mirrors, MediaNav 7" touchscreen multimedia system and a trip computer for £17,395.

Finally, there's Duster Prestige with 17-inch wheels multi-view camera, blind spot warning, climate control, and keyless entry. At that price, we'd seriously consider a Renault Kadjar instead.
