Dacia Duster Earns New 1.6-Liter Engine, Power Goes Up to 115 HP

Other than the increase in power, the new engine Dacia sees fit to install in their Duster SUV is EU6-compliant.

In Dacia's view, the Duster just became "shockingly affordable" after the brand rewarded the small-sized SUV with a new EU6-compliant 1.6-liter 16V 115-horspower petrol engine.

The mill comes to replace the previous 1.6-liter 16V 105-horsepower unit, but there's more than meets the eye.

Mid-range Ambiance 4x2 and 4x4 versions have been added, helping create what Dacia considers to be "a more progressive and logical product line." Before this change was operated, only entry-level Access models were offered with a petrol engine. The new 1.6 16V 115 engine
Dacia claims the 115-horsepower 1.6-litre 16-valve engine is a brand new unit, not simply an EU6 version of the petrol engine previously fitted to the Duster. The mill is a 1,598 cc unit with multi-point fuel injection, driving through a five-speed manual gearbox in 4x2 models and a six-speed manual in the 4x4s. Moreover, Engine Stop and Start is offered as a standard feature.

Apart from that, it develops ten horsepower more than its predecessor at 5,500 rpm and has an extra 8 Nm (6 lb-ft) of torque – now 156 Nm (115 lb-ft) at 4,000 rpm.

If it's performance figures you're interested in, hear this out: the engine allows the 0-62mph acceleration time of 4x2 versions to drop from 11.5 to 11.0 seconds, while for 4x4 models the reduction is 0.8 seconds to 12.0 seconds.

In other related news, the 2016 Renault Duster facelift for the Indian market will also include a twin-clutch automatic gearbox. Now, that might no be that important for some, but we can't help but ask: will Europe receive it as well, for the Dacia Duster?

We can't answer that right now, but the SUV and the European buyers interested in having one could benefit from such a solution. For more info, feel free to check the press release below.
