By now, you've all seen quadcopter drones used for filming on the news. In fact, the chances are that you know somebody who owns one. But have you ever seen a hexacopter? Probably not, especially not like the CyPhy LVL 1.
This is one of the most interesting projects on Kickstarter and like the Lily we showed you a while ago, deliveries will take place sometime in 2016… we hope. The CyPhy LVL 1 comes from Helen Greiner, the co-founder of Helen Greiner and an expert on startup companies.

The LVL 1 is all about having the maximum stability and delivering a filming platform that's extremely easy to use. It's for the people who just want to film things in high definition without having to learn how to pilot and RC craft.

In the 80s, people used to laugh at the kids who played with computer parts every day and look where they are now. After that, a science called "robotics" appeared. We laughed at them too until everybody started buying the DJI Phantoms, and it even appeared on South Park.

Is the 6-rotor design better than the quad?

In a word, yes. As you may have noticed, the blades of the CyPhy LVL 1 are directed slightly outwards, which makes it more stable. We don't want to bore you with the physics, but just think of a camera tripod or a ladder and imagine why that's better than always balancing something on top of a stick.

The preview video also shows other interesting features. For example, you can set specific boundaries within which the drone must fly. The LVL 1 can also post videos or photos directly to your social network.

They've already raised the money they needed on Kickstarter, which is just short of a million dollars. However, they want to take the autonomous idea even further by letting you create geofences on your computer or telling the device to follow a specific GPS path. Interesting stuff!
