If you’re looking for a good pick-me-up right this instant, forget about that cup of coffee you had in mind: we have something even better. A new meme has been born, and we have a London mechanic to thank for it.
For the time being, the dude is simply referred to as the Why You Coming Fast? mechanic because no one has been able to identify him yet. The video he appears in was actually shot and posted online at the end of November last year, but it’s just now that it’s generating worldwide attention.

You can see at the bottom of the page: it’s filmed on the helmet camera of a cyclist riding on the pavement. For whatever reason, he loses control of the bike and crashes into a mechanic who’s working on a car near the curb. The impact is strong enough to force the mechanic with his head inside the car he’s fixing, so he has every right to be upset.

However, the way he goes about expressing his anger is what’s most entertaining. Holding his head throughout the entire video, he lashes out at the cyclist, asking him, “You blind can you see me?” and “Why you f***ing coming fast?” He also takes his bike and tells him not to leave, why he goes to look for his phone so he can call the police.

Though the biker is apologetic from the start and despite his efforts to explain what happened, the mechanic rages on. He’s mad and he wants justice. Again, it’s not that he’s not entitled to feel rage at being hit (he was even wearing a bright yellow vest and everything!), but the way he acts is absolutely hilarious.

With the resurgence of the video, the mechanic has become a viral star. He inspired Halloween costumes, and he’s been turned into a punchline, while his words are now the hottest sassy one-liner you can deliver in a verbal spat. Remixes and animated versions of the video have also been created, and his “Why you coming fast?” line has been included in rap songs. The Internet is even wondering when the mechanic will come forward.

Here are a few samples of the meme from Twitter, together with the original.
