We're not sure if Cyberpunk 2077 will be the benchmark-setting open-world RPG that was promised all those years ago. As more reviews come out, some of its flaws are revealed, but no game is perfect, and the design teams were definitely pulling their weight. The vehicles were becoming iconic even before this week's big release, none more so than the Quadra V-Tech.
Its full name is apparently the 2058 Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech... because V-Tech just kicked in, yo! Outside of an old Porsche, there are no real cars in Cyberpunk, so all the designs are completely made up. Despite this, the sporty-looking machine resembles a realistic mix of real cars.
You've got clear inspiration from the Lamborghini Countach and the Ferrari Testarossa, tied together with elements from the current custom car and racing scenes, like the cone filters and funky exhausts.
Digital artist Brad Builds took one look at that and thought it needed some lifting. Adding off-road tires to unlikely cars, like the Tesla Roadster or the BMW M4, is something he's known for. The result can be quite controversial, but we think this Baja-style treatment makes perfect sense in the context of the Cyberpunk universe.
We picked the nickname for this off-road V-Tech based on one of V's three Lifepaths. In "Nomad" mode, you roam the Badlands, "looting scrapyards, raiding fuel deports." It sounds like Mad Max, but has the "honesty and love of freedom" you get from real off-road enthusiasts nowadays.
Now, there are real high-riders in Cyberpunk, including a pickup called The Beast, which looks suspiciously like the GMC Hummer EV. But we like the idea of a lifted Quadra. According to some wiki sites, the Turbo-R was made between 2055 and 2062 as America's response to the Japanese sports car manufacturers. So in a way, Detroit is always trying to catch up. Maybe it failed because of oil leaks or random fires, but the people in Night City probably still respect it for the way it sounds.
