Vespa is better known around the world as the luxury two-wheel brand of Italian scooter producer Piaggio. However, does anyone remember that it once also dabbled with passenger cars?
Well, sort of, since the 1957 to 1961 Vespa 400 was actually a two-door Cabrio coach microcar and the rear-engined model was also produced by ACMA in Fourchambault, France, rather than by Vespa itself in Italy. But it still counts, at least for today’s CGI intents and digital comparison purposes.
So, meet Giorgi Tedoradze, a Georgia-based industrial designer better known as tedoradze.giorgi on social media. He is the one who has recently dropped from the ultra-luxury SUV stratosphere where his imagined Bugatti Royale Elegant or McLaren Aonic high-riders clash with the unofficial Ferrari Purosangue. Now, he is onto something smaller but just as luxurious as the pixel master envisioned the introduction of the non-existent all-electric Vespa 300.
Not a revival of the late 1950s microcar but rather a contemporary, zero-emissions city car spiritual successor, this cutesy little Vespa underwent all the usual OEM stages of reveal. First, it was featured in a dark teaser, then it was revealed in an “official” sketch rendering so that now it can even go against one of its intended main rivals – Fiat’s New 500 battery-powered supermini.
So far so good, but we need way more details about its technical capabilities as well as a flurry of different POVs of the side profile and rear three-quarters variety before we can make up our imagined minds about which is better. Right now, according to a user comment, it seems like “the Fiat looks more Vespa than the Vespa 300 itself.”
Of course, given the strong brand recognition for both Fiat’s legendary 500 and Piaggio’s premium Vespa nameplate, there should be no surprise if many people do not consider the little all-electric city car as their Italian cup of tea. Alas, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, so all opinions are always welcomed and deeply encouraged.
