Breaking speed records is no child game, but we don't have to tell this to Andy Green, the one who will attempt to break a record he set in October 1997. But a helping hand is always welcome, the reason why Jaguar created the F-Type R AWD Bloodhound SSC RRV.
It sounds a lot more pompous than it is (RRV stands for 'rapid response vehicle') but the custom-built Jag F-Type knows its horsepower. The leaping cat blessed the coupé with 550 HP coming from a 5.0-litre V8 engine. Moreover, it was designed by Jaguar Land Rover’s SVO department and features a one-off livery created by Jaguar Design in the Bloodhound SSC's colors.

Why are we telling you this? Well, Jaguar is a technical partner of Bloodhound SSC, which means they supply engines, know-how and a series of support vehicles for the attempt to break the world land speed record.

The industrious F-Type is fitted with the same radio equipment as the rocket-powered Bloodhound SSC, and to prove its worth, Jaguar engineers drove it head-to-head at top speed with an equally equipped jet flown at 500 knots (926 km/h or 575 mph) at just 20 ft (6 metres) above the ground.

Also, the F-Type will provide hydraulic services to the car and drive the rocket's oxidiser pump. The car will be unveiled during the Coventry MotoFest (taking place on 30-31 May) but petrolheads will also be able to admire some classic models from Jaguar.

And by classic models we mean the 1953 C-Type, the 1956 D-Type Long Nose and the stunning 1966 XJ13. Enough to get you interested?
