The CBX1000 is an iconic presence in the world of big bikes: it had a 6-cylinder in-line engine making it a very spectacular presence and a bike very fun to drive, if only just the thought of its unique-sounding engine.
Well, Honda stopped making CBX1000 bikes in 1982 and those which are left are valuable pieces, especially as they can be customized in endless ways. And AussieVaughan Ryan has just done a wonderful job turning the streetfighter into a cafe-racer with tons of attitude.
Being a very good coach-builder and therefore used to creating new shapes out of the air, Vaughan had the perfect prerequisites to change the casual CBX1000 into the bike he now calls "RAW".
The resulting machine comes indeed with a raw look which completely lives up to its name. The massive engine is exposed and the bodywork has been kept to the minimum possible. The front end comes from a Ducati 1098R, fork, clamps, wheel, brakes and all, while a Ducati 999 provided the rear wheel and caliper. Rear Ohlins shocks and a retro tail light complete the RAW.
To stress the uniqueness of the CBX1000 series, Vaughan gave up the original two 3-in-1 exhausts and has endowed the RAW with no less than 6 pipes, most likely delivering a sound beyond belief. Hats off to this nifty project and his creators!
