The Chevrolet Malibu is the model that received a second chance after being relaunched in 1997, but this doesn’t necessarily mean the classic versions aren’t something worthy of our love.
Despite initially starting as a trim level of the Chevelle, the Malibu just kept getting more and more refinements, and the fourth generation, which was the last before the entire lineup was originally abandoned by Chevrolet, is the one that eventually brought the car to the market as a stand-alone series.

Available in three different body styles, namely a 2-door coupe, a 4-door sedan, and a 5-door station wagon, the new Malibu version was produced for just five years between 1978 and 1983. But despite this, it was one model that people loved, and the car that we’re highlighting here is just the confirmation in this regard.

Posted on eBay, this Malibu is a custom build that features tweaks in all key areas, including under the hood. The car now comes with a massive 533ci (8.7-liter) engine that has been installed as part of a ground-up restoration, as the seller themselves explain, and it’s obviously the first thing you notice when seeing the car. It also received new aluminum heads, a FiTech fuel injection kit, and a Freddy Brown transmission system.

Needles to say, the interior itself has been customized with quite a lot of tweaks, so you’re getting a pair of Recaro seats, new gauges, power windows, and even a Pioneer head unit with a large screen that’s likely to feature touch support and extra gimmicks like Bluetooth and everything for smartphone connectivity.

The owner says the car is totally drivable, which means that whoever decides to buy it can very well take it home on its wheels. However, it’s currently being used for car shows mostly given all the upgrades that have been installed.

This Malibu can be yours for $48,000, and you can check it out in person in West Islip, New York, United States.
