Custom 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Is a 525 HP Indiana Special With C5 and C6 Parts

The Chevrolet Corvette started being made way back in 1953, but when talking about the older ones people mostly associate the name with the second generation of the model, the famed Sting Ray that came to be in 1963. Penned by Larry Shinoda, it was significantly different in design compared to the first-gen, a tad smaller, but would grow into one of the favorite ‘Vettes for modern-day car collectors. And this is why we talk about it so much as part of our special Chevrolet Month coverage.

The one we have here comes from the final model year of the second generation, 1967. It’s no longer stock, as it has been handled as a resto mod by an Indiana garage called American Speed Shop.

Sporting a Silver Pearl body with a black stinger on the hood, the car rides on staggered 18 and 19-inch Spider alloy wheels wrapped in low profile Redline tires. Behind these wheels the builders hid suspension taken from a C6 (at the rear) and a C5 (front), but also Z06 power disc brakes.

The interior looks highly luxurious, with leather all around, in a color the builders call Mercedes-Benz Tan. It seems to fit the reimagined cockpit perfectly, and is aided in this mission by the addition of a Vintage Air system, and a retro-looking AM/FM stereo head unit, among others.

The Sting Ray packs under the hood an LS3 V8 engine linked to a 5-speed manual transmission and breathing through a side exit exhaust. In this configuration, the powerplant is capable of developing 525 hp.

Just as you see it this Corvette is for sale. It was listed as part of a Mecum auction that took place at the end of October, but failed to find a new owner, so it’s still out there. The people selling it make no mention of how much they expect to get for the car.
