As it often happened over the course of human history, the Second World War made a definite contribution to the advancement of technology. It is because of the war that we now have rockets taking people to space, nuclear bombs threatening to annihilate us all, and this Dodge Power Wagon.
Like most other car companies back then, Dodge supported the war effort by doing what it did best: vehicles. For instance, its WC series of light 4WD and medium 6WD military trucks was quite successful in carrying troops and supplies to and from battlefields.
When the war ended and Americans got that pickup truck itch, Dodge decided to turn the WC series into something civilians could use: hence the Power Wagon was born right when the war ended. It too proved successful, and was kept in production in a number of variants well into the 1980s.
That means there are quite a lot of them still around, but we’re pretty sure not one matches the model in the gallery above in terms of coolness.
Of a 1952 model year, this Power Wagon went through a body-off restoration that turned it into the glowing black and red monster of a machine.
The rebuilding of the truck was made in such a way as to preserve much of the original hardware. That includes the engine, which is the same 230ci (3.7-liters) six cylinder that powered the truck more than half a century ago, linked to a 4-speed manual transmission.
The same can be said about the interior, where the builders went for the stock look, only reconditioned and colored to match the exterior motif.
One other interesting aspect about this truck is that it’s for sale. It’s not cheap – the price tag reads $117,900 – but for true fans that might count for little.
