There’s a major development on the electric car front coming next year for Mercedes-Benz: the flagship EV with motors and battery will launch into the world as the EQS, marking a point when the Germans will forever be committed to going down the electrification path.
The S-Class might be the finest of all Benzes, but the EQS will not not only have to be that but also the finest of all-electric luxury saloons out there, no matter the make. That means we’re to expect some incredible technologies to find their way into the car.

On January 7, 2021, during an online event (you will be able to watch it here), and later the same month at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES, a digital show for the first time in history), Mercedes-Benz will be showing a supposedly revolutionary screen for the EV. It will power everything in the vehicle, save for the actual motoring: infotainment, comfort and vehicle functions.

Called MBUX Hyperscreen, it will span “along the entire width of the vehicle in front of the driver and front passenger,” it will be run by artificial intelligence, and it will be offered “for the first time optionally” in the EQS.

“Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG, Vera Schmidt, Head of Mercedes-Benz Advanced Digital Design, and Sajjad Khan, CTO and Member of the Board of Management Mercedes-Benz AG, will together present the MBUX Hyperscreen and its numerous facets. From control over functionality to material and design to technical details – the viewers gain interesting insights into the system, its unique features and its development,” said the carmaker in a statement.

Of course, no other details on the technology have been revealed so far. We’re promised the entire story will be told in the first days of next month, though, so stay tuned to see what the future brings.
