Cruise Ship Will Offer First-Ever Racetrack at Sea, Maiden Voyage in Summer 2017

Cruise ship operators are constantly in search of more features to attract tourists, and we have just heard of one that offers karting as an optional activity.

We are talking about the first ever racetrack at sea, placed on a 168,000-ton cruise line. The kart track has two levels, a couple of turns, and several shifts in elevation to spice things up.

Most likely, the go-karts used are electric, a thoughtful choice for the environment and the other tourists on the ship.

The liner is called Norwegian Joy, and will have its maiden voyage next summer, Autoblog informs. It will be operated by the Norwegian Cruise line, and will be styled for Chinese travelers.

The homeports of the new ship will be Shanghai and Tianjin (Beijing). Naturally, like any vendor of products or services, the cruise operator claims that its new addition to the fleet is the most innovative ship to date.

For now, the cost of a cruise on this liner is unspecified. Since we are talking about a massive cruise ship that includes alternative activities like bumper cars, a 360-foot water slide, two casinos, simulators, and luxury outlets, we expect tickets to be pricey.

However, we cannot help wondering what it would be like to race a go-kart on a track that is in motion at sea. Some might say it could bring a new level of motion-sickness.

Either way, we believe you should not go on a cruise just because the ship has an onboard facility which attracts you. Instead, we suggest doing that activity on land, and going on a cruise just because you desire this kind of travel. The extra features could be seen as a bonus to the voyage, not the other way round.

After all, there is a limit on how much karting you can do while on vacation on a cruise, right? You must also consider that the vessel can carry 4,200 passengers and 1,700 crew, so the queue for the go-kart track might get pretty long once in a while.
