Since summer is almost here, most of us plan to hit the road and do all sorts of fun activities. And for those who don’t have enough cash to buy an RV, here’s a nice option: rooftop tents that can be mounted on the top of your car. Even better, they can connect to other tents or double as ground ones to form a whole camping village.
It’s the creation of Irish-American outdoor gear company Crua Outdoors, which reimagined its ground tent line into the Crua AER, a versatile rooftop tent that can be set up on top of your car in just a minute. According to the brand, it is designed to attach to the vehicle’s roof via the crossbars by using a hand-tightening system. Then, in a rather smooth process, the tent unfolds by pulling the adjustable ladder to secure it on the ground.
The AER comes in two size configurations, so it can fit two to three persons or up to five persons, depending on the chosen layout option. Made with a microfiber-dense fabric, it offers good insulation during cold days. With its ventilation points, it also comes with a temperature regulating system to keep you cool in the summer.
For those who want to connect better with nature, the tent can also be installed on the ground without any additional equipment. With this option, buyers who prefer to use it like that can upgrade to a new pole system with an extra under-floor groundsheet.
With its modular design, the AER is also able to connect both on the ground or in the air to other Crue tents and create a multi-tent compound. From the inside, it offers 360-degree viewing and dual skylights, so everyone can enjoy the surrounding landscape.
Currently, the rooftop tent is listed on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo and has surpassed its $20.000 goal. The AER that can fit 2-3 persons stands at $1.849 for pre-orders, while its bigger version comes for $2.199.
Although it costs a few bucks, it’s still cheaper than an RV which can mark a score of up to $300,000 depending on its class and features. Bottom line, I’d say it’s a good option for campers who seek to get some outdoor fun out of the upcoming summer season.
