Crossovers Help Nissan Achieve Record Sales in Europe

Japanese carmaker Nissan reported today improved monthly sales figures of 47,834 units for the entire European market. The results are 13 percent higher than the result achieved by the company last year and a new record for January.

This excellent performance was underpinned by continuing strong demand for all of Nissan’s crossover models, the Qashqai, Juke and Murano. In fact, the company has seen a 60 percent rise in crossover sales due to the launch of Juke and new Murano diesel. The company’s overall share of the European market has also increased 0.6 points in January to 3.6 percent, up from last year’s 3.2 percent.

“Following 2010 – which saw our highest market share for 15 years – January’s results show that Nissan remains a brand in demand in 2011. Sales across our entire crossover range grew significantly compared to last year. Our plant in Sunderland has boosted production of Juke and is continuing to work around the clock to meet customer orders for Qashqai,” said Bernard Loire, Vice President Sales for Nissan in Europe.

According to the official company press release, top performers countries included Russia, where demand increased nearly two and half times compared to January 2010, outperforming the market by a huge margin and maintaining Nissan’s position as the top-selling Japanese brand in the country.

The company expects its fresh product offering, which already includes the funky-looking Juke and purposeful Murano plus the all-new Micra citycar, will do well in this year. “In the coming months our market share will be further strengthened by the full sales ramp-up of the all-new, and iconic, Nissan Micra,” the Nissan sales VP added.
