If pink used to be a charming color for kids, celebrities out there have managed to ruin it completely. First, all these rapper fashionistas like Nicki Minaj and Paris Hilton have covered their cars with the flashy color, and now this. We’re not saying that some aftermarket enhancements shouldn’t be allowed, even though BMW’s plug-in hybrid sportscar is perfect in its stock version. But this is too much to bare.
We have found that the BMW i8 is a head turner without having to wear anything else than its everyday clothes. Sure, you can order one in black or blue, maybe even get some of that tint onto the windows. Heck, you can even apply a pair of custom shoes if that will make you feel better once you start the engine.

But pink, no pink will not match with this beautiful piece of engineering. It’s not just us saying this hybrid truly amazes, just look at the sales. The i8 was released in Germany in June 2014; one year later cumulative global sales totaled almost 4,500 units. That’s pretty significant considering the retail price and the customer type that the Germans are targeting.

Not that you don’t know these aspects already, but let us remember we’re looking at a hybrid sportscar that in all-electric mode solely is capable of reaching a top speed of 75 mph (120 km/h). Switch it to Sport and the i8 delivers a mid-range acceleration from 50 to 75 mph (80 to 120 km/h) in 2.6 seconds.

The range may not be as significant as the Tesla Model S, but it remains more than impressive. The production i8 has a 7.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a usable capacity of 5.2 kWh and intelligent energy management that delivers an all-electric range of 23 miles (37 km). These are just some small factors, and we reckon you can check out our test drive if you want to get a proper feeling.

As we said above, from the moment we drove the I8 one thing was sure, there’s not one person that will ignore its beauty. It’s like no custom shop can make it look better than it already is. Wrapping it in pink, that is truly something we can’t agree with.
