Back in the 1930s, due to the turmoil of the age, the two iconic British car builders known as Rolls-Royce and Bentley became the same company.
During the war, the joint company was headquartered in Crewe, the site of today’s Bentley manufacturing center, and remained there until their separation in 2000. For years, the two have been building cars under the same roof. Now, that's no longer the case.

There are a number of Rolls-Royce vehicles manufactured at Crewe still in existence, currently under the custodianship of Bentley Motor Cars, and all will go under the hammer at the hands of Bonhams on September 8, during the  Goodwood Revival Sale.

In all, eight historic Rolls-Royce cars will be sold, starting with the 1953 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV State Landaulette, which the auctioneers hope to sell for up to £2,000,000. The car is identical to the one used by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, on her royal wedding day to Prince Harry.

The second most prized possession in the collection is the 1960 Rolls-Royce Phantom V High Roof State Limousine, a car hoped to fetch up to £1,500,000.

Far less valuable as far as the sum expected to be paid for them are the rest of the cars in the collection: a 2002 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible (the last Rolls-Royce ever built at Crewe) – valued at £220,000, a 2002 Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph Park Ward Long wheelbase saloon (£100,000), a 1994/5 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible IV (£250,000), a 1979 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI Limousine (£600,000) and a 1985 Rolls-Royce Centenary Silver Spur Saloon (£100,000).

“This is a remarkable collection of cars, and one that beautifully illustrates the history of one of the most celebrated and prestigious companies in the world,” said in a statement Malcolm Barber, Bonhams co-chairman.

“Rolls-Royces have been present at countless historic events in recent British history, and the heritage fleet encapsulates the most significant models produced by the marque.”
