Crashed C8 Corvette Looks Pitiful On Copart

Last month, two photographs of a crashed C8 Corvette Stingray Z51 with the high-wing spoiler surfaced on the World Wide Web. In addition to the mid-engine sports car posing as a glorified scarecrow on someone’s muddy field, not much else is known about the accident.

Was it speed, was it oversteer on a wet road, or was the driver trying to avoid an animal? Whatever happened, the ‘Vette has resurfaced on the Internet, this time on Copart with an estimated retail value of $107,699.”

The question is, isn’t that too much money for a 2LT Coupe?

Let’s go through the U.S. configurator of the C8 and find out. The intermediate trim level kicks off at $67,295 including destination charge, Ceramic Matrix Gray Metallic doesn’t cost extra, black wheels add $995, the Z51 package is $5,000, and the Engine Appearance Package is $995.

We’re shy of $75k, so how did Copart estimate this ‘Vette at $107,699?

Let’s add the 5VM carbon-fiber aero kit to the mix at $4,850, shall we? Even with this rare option (currently unavailable due to a supplier issue), the car isn’t worth as much as Copart suggests. On the upside, chassis number 1G1Y72D46L5100269 should be fairly easy to sell at auction given that it’s the only C8 Corvette listed on Copart at the time of writing.

The LT2 small-block V8 and Tremec dual-clutch transmission are desirable, obviously, but even smaller items such as the wheels, carbon-fiber side skirts, two-tone seats, headlights, and taillights will fetch pretty money in the classifieds. After all, the C8 hype has yet to die down as we’re preparing to enter the 2021 model year with new options for the Stingray.

Unfortunately, those looking forward to the Z06 will have to wait a little longer than that. Apparently pushed back to the 2022 model year, the flat-plane crankshaft V8 option is expected to utilize the same DCT as the Stingray and Stingray although the LT6 will rev beyond 8,000 rpm.
