Craftsman Builds Astonishing Star Trek and Star Wars Tables

If we were to imagine the morning meeting presided by Captain Kirk onboard of the starship Enterprise, this hand-made wooden table would most likely be where the coffee was served. The creation process clearly was not an easy thing to do, but the craftsman behind these custom Star Trek tables sure enjoyed doing his first since another two followed.

When you think that the first series of the science fiction franchise dates all the way back to 1966, it’s almost unbelievable. Fans worldwide still find new ways to pay their tribute to the spacecraft featured in the movie.

So here’s how Barry Shields from Sevierville, Tennessee describes his first out-of-this-world table. “This is one of the hardest pieces I have ever created. It took more than 3 weeks to build the ship. It’s made of ash, cherry and poplar woods.”

Weighing about 75 lbs, the Star Trek Enterprise table was designed as though the spaceship was coming through the glass. The bridge part of the ship was set on the glass while 1/4’’ of it were cut to make it look like it’s in motion. That is the first Enterprise table he made. The second one was a lot more sophisticated and took more than 3 months to build.

This one is made of ash, black walnut and poplar woods. The weight is similar to the first, so is the price that was set at $3,500. It may seem that the craftsman felt somewhat guilty towards all the Star Wars fans out there, considering he later decided also to build a similar table that this time took the shape of the X-Wing fighter.

After six months of working around his full-time job, the table was ready. Its creator claims it’s very sturdy and is finished to withstand any spilled drinks on it. The stand is made so that it has the “X” at any viewing angles to represent the “X” in “X-Wing”. This particular breed will set you back at $5,500, but we’re pretty sure there are plenty of Star Wars fans that would go for it.
